Del Mar Race Track

With Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens riding her to victory by over 8 lengths, Beholder became the first mare to win Del Mar’s $1million TVG Pacific Classic! This was Gary’s second Pacific Classic Win. After winning half the million dollar purse, he purchased his watercolor portrait, painted by Stephen Bennett (above left with Gary Stevens).

Exhibition for Del Mar
Thoroughbred Club

With Stephen Bennett’s generous contribution to CARMA’s auction and fundraiser (see July 16 event below), Del Mar Thoroughbred Club invited him to display his colorful portraits of horses, jockies and painting of Diamond Paddock at the track’s entrance.

Reproductions of Triple Crown Glory (see July 16 below) were sold during the exhibit, along original watercolor portraits of famous jockies and horses.

The now famous jockey, Victor Epinoza actually purchased this grand painting of Diamond Paddock (at left) where the horses are displayed prior to each race at Del Mar.

Portrait Artist, Stephen Bennett was invited by French Polynesia to display several portrait paintings from around the world during his two month residency in Papeete, at the Hotel Le Meridien.

This was Stephen’s second trip to French Polynesia. The first was in 2000 when Stephen lived for over a year on 3 different islands. His portrait paintings of 30 traditional people of French Polynesia islands were displayed at City Hall in Papeeté during their annual, week-long celebration, Haeva in July, 2000... an extra special event and year!
